Halifax Port: CEO Captain Gray’s 100-Day Meet & Greet Has Him Sitting Down With Waterfront Union President Kevin Piper
Mar 6, 2020 | Transportation
By Andrew Macdonald
Now three months into his posting as Port of Halifax chief executive officer, Captain Allan Gray is continuing with a 100-day ‘meet & greet’ of the port community.
And the other week, he sat down one-on-one with the president of the union representing waterfront workers who load and unload the container boxes from container vessels calling Halifax. The workers are a key component of the local port operations.
The meeting between the captain, who has two decades of actual shipping experience in his native Australia, and Kevin Piper, the president of International Longshoremen’s Association Local 269, was, by their accounts, positive and productive.
I caught up to Piper after he had the meeting with the new CEO in his corner office at the Halifax Port Authority offices, and Piper tells The Notebook he is pleased that Gray has oodles of shipping experience.
