By Jordan Parker
There are mass precautionary measures in Metro despite no confirmed cases of the coronavirus. However, this means our city is in a preventative state, which can be a saving grace in the long run.
But with everything from the NHL to Broadway being cancelled, the reverberations are now being felt in Halifax, to the detriment of the theatre, film, television, sports and freelance journalism industries.
Today saw both Symphony Nova Scotia and Neptune Theatre announce decisions that could severely damage their short-term earnings.
“Neptune Theatre is discontinuing all performances of Calendar Girls, Ghost Light and Alex Zerbe’s Zaniac Comedy Show. This is the right decision to keep our community safe and healthy. As a not-for-profit theatre, we ask for your support during this time of crisis and that you consider donating the value of your ticket(s) back to the theatre for a charitable donation receipt.”
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Museum of Natural History and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia also announced they would close until further notice.
